Gain De Cause justified good support to open his account at the sixth attempt in division two of the Old House, Kill Handicap Hurdle at Punchestown.
Trained by Tony Martin for JP McManus, the son of Fame And Glory was available at 6/1 earlier in the day and went off the 7/2 favourite.
Mark Walsh produced the five-year-old to head the front-running Beat Of The Sea approaching the final flight, and he kept on well on the run-in to score by two lengths.
Topweight Bread And Butter kept on well to take the runner-up spot with She’s Commanche a further two-and-three-quarter lengths away in third.
Martin said, “The experience he got in Cork the last day and the extra trip helped him.
“It’s great that it’s worked out and he’s got his day in the sun.
“We’ll keep tipping away and find something similar for him.”
