Review GALWAY 1st Aug
Young apprentice Danny Mullins had an evening to remember at Galway after booting home a treble, including landing the valuable Guinness Handicap aboard Glitter Baby
Last year's winner Forthright made a bold bid from the front, but Mullins was oozing confidence on the 20-1 winner, before striking for home over a furlong out.
That move proved decisive, as the pair flew clear inside the distance, and although Zafar was finishing equally well, he was still four lengths down at the line.
The young jockey had earlier got off the mark for the day by steering his uncle Tom's Cristal Island (7-4) to a short-head success over Dactik in the Guinness Auction Maiden.
He rounded off a fine night with a power-packed ride on Mick Quinlan's British raider Metal Madness in the Arthur Guinness Handicap.
Always towards the fore, the 6-1 chance repelled a number of challenges in the closing stages to finish a half-length winner over Golden Tokyo < Mikhail Fokine showed abundant determination to repel Matter At Hand's strong challenge and land the Galway Publican's EBF Maiden.
After taking up the running on the turn for home, Seamie Heffernan had to be at his strongest in the closing stages as the 2-1 second favourite held the odds-on market leader by three-quarters of a length.
Veterans showed the way home in the Tony O'Malley Memorial Handicap Chase, as the 11-year-old Torrid Kentavr beat 10-year-old Davenport Democrat to the spoils.< Coolgreaney was in front at the last but by the turn for home, Torrid Kentavr (15-2) had got on top and he responded well for David Casey's pressure to hold off the fast-finishing runner-up by three lengths. Monty Mint took third.< Truckers Delight ran out a decisive winner of the Guinness (Q.R.) Handicap Hurdle under Patrick Mullins.
Mullins was sat motionless on John Hanlon's 11-2 chance at the last and once given a push, the seven-year-old quickly scooted clear to beat Ringned by eight lengths.
