Trainer Joseph O'Brien completed a treble at Dundalk and, having registered a 1-2 in the Listed Patton Stakes, finished a good evening's work with Funny Little Ways win in the concluding Winter Series Awards Day 4th April Handicap.
O'Brien's earlier winners were the Shane Crosse partnered Crossfirehurricane in the featured Patton Stakes and the Declan McDonogh partnered San Andreas while Funny Little Ways completed the hat-trick under jockey Mikey Sheehy.
The daughter of Gutaifan carries the colours of owner/breeder Kevin Blake, who works as O'Brien's race planner, and later said “I was hopeful once she broke well. I said to Mikey beforehand if she breaks well then go forward and if you’re caught wide not to worry as I felt she needed to be forward.
“There is a mile race here in two weeks but she could go for a similar race over seven furlongs here on the Finals day, April 4. She’ll get points for winning this and she should get in.
“It’s great to get a win with her. The mare has been really good to me and that’s the only filly she’s had so that’s important.”
