Fret a popular winner
Thats A Fret was a popular local winner of the Blackstone Motors Renault Handicap under Ben Curtis (got a 2 day ban for the whip) for owner/breeder Marie Cusack and trainer Liam McAteer.
The victorious son of Choisir led two furlongs out and he pulled out more when looking sure to be swallowed by Mt Weather (stumbled coming out of the stalls). There was a neck between them at the line. Well-backed favourite Pimlico Sound (evens) was beaten from the two furlong pole and finished seventh.
A delighted McAteer said afterwards: "This is my favourite course. The horse travelled well for Ben and I'd told him to wait for as long as he could before producing him. He'll go to Listowel and to Galway before that for a seven furlong race.
"He is a great fun horse and it's a pity the owners couldn't be here tonight. They have a 'do' at the hotel this evening (the Knightsbrook in Trim)." Statue Of Dreams rider, Kieran O'Neill got a 5-day careless riding ban.
