Free Running on her first start for John Feane, had a comfortable success in the seven furlong maiden at Laytown.

The four-year-old filly raced in fourth at the halfway stage before mounting her challenge with over a quarter of a mile to race.

The 2/1 shot swept into the lead and was ridden by Gary Halpin approaching the furlong pole. From there, she powered away to put three and a quarter lengths on Approbare who stayed on well for second at 10/1. Snoozing Indian the 6/4 favourite, came home third.

John Feane said: "She came and had a few issues but she won very well there with her ears pricked. We were happy with her. She was in at the weights and it was probably the best race for her. It was a good opportunity for her. She has a lot of good form on all-weather.

"James (Mescall) picked her out at the sales and liked her. He wanted to have a winner here so it's good for him.

"She'll go to Dundalk, there's a couple of fillies' handicaps there for her."

The Owner James Mescall is from Miltown.

This was Feane's first winner at Laytown.
