Jimmy Fortune is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering fractured vertebrae in a nasty fall at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
Fortune was partnering the Brian Meehan-trained Spark Plug in the Royal Hunt Cup when his mount clipped heels with a horse in front of him and fell heavily inside the final furlong.
Both horse and jockey were quickly on their feet, but scans on Wednesday evening revealed Fortune's injuries.
He said: "I went to have some scans last night and unfortunately I've fractured two vertebrae. I'm a bit sore, but I'll be fine and it could have been a lot worse.
"I'm back home now and I've got to go to a fracture clinic for more tests, which will hopefully tell us a bit more. I'm a bit in the dark at the minute.
"I don't think there are any operations involved, it's just a case of giving it time and these things normally take six to eight weeks."
