- Fortune favours The Hurl
Fortune favours The Hurl
The Hurl took full advantage of the fall of odds-on favourite Morning Supreme to take the opening two and a quarter miles www.thurlesraces.ie Beginners Chase.
The key incident occurred three out where the 5/6 shot held a three length advantage over Mouse Morris' charge, although neither horse had been asked a serious question up to that point.
The Hurl, with Niall Madden aboard, was left clear and kept on well in the straight to beat Roi Du Mee by ten lengths, with Bobs Display a distance back in third. Fen Game was a remote third when falling at the second last.
Morris said, “He didn't jump too badly and just needs a bit more work schooling. We were a bit lucky but I'll take all the luck I can get. This trip is the horses bare minimum but we needed to get a run into him after going early at Fairyhouse last time.”
Willie Mullins was not too disappointed with Morning Supreme saying, "I thought she jumped better over fences than she has done over hurdles but just paid the penalty for one novicey mistake."
