The Jerry Cosgrave trained Cottersrock gained his first win at the seventh attempt when bolting up in the concluding Dale Farm Bumper at Down Royal today, under jockey Noel McParlan.
The son of Robin Des Pres failed to win in three point-to-points and three previous bumper outings but today improved one placing on his recent Kilbeggan runner-up effort.
McParlan's mount arrived full of running to lead two furlongs out and stayed on strongly in the closing stages for a four and three parts of a length win over Se Mo Laoch
Afterwards Cosgrave stated "two and a half miles was too far for him in Roscommon (two runs ago) and he should have won in Kilbeggan.
"He has a bit of a future at two miles. He's for sale and if he's not sold he'll jump a hurdle."
