Footprint gained a third course win at Sligo today and, a fifth in total, in the Foley's Bar & Off Licence Handicap, scoring for trainer Pat Martin and Irish National winning jockey Andrew Thornton.
Following the win, Martin stated “things just didn't happen for him at Galway when he got a bump early on and didn't handle that kind of thing too well and took off with Andrew.
“He travelled well today and the only hiccup was the traffic turning in. He's not straightforward but is brave and Andrew gave him a great ride. They have a good relationship together.”
Dual purpose jockey Thornton, successful on Lion Na Bearnai in the 2012 Irish Grand National, was recording just his second winner of the flat season.
