Conor O’Dwyer reports Folsom Blue in good form ahead of the Grade 2 Boylesports.com Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle at Thurles this afternoon.
The five-year-old son of Old Vic completed a hat-trick this season in a Listed event over two and three quarter miles at Clonmel four weeks ago.
A top-priced 5/4 chance with Paddy Power, he’s set to give weight all-round against five rivals in this two and a half mile feature.
“He’s been super for us all season, and is stepping up again into Graded company. He’s dropping in trip as well but hopefully he can do it,” said O’Dwyer.
“I think his form is standing up well. Dessie’s horse (Lyreen Legend) has to have a great chance as he’s only meeting us 1lb wrong on official weights.
“The step back in trip is a little worry, and the ground will probably be a bit tacky. I’d have preferred if we had some rain during the week.
“The ground is the key to him as he loves it soft. We decided not to aim him at Cheltenham because of that.”
