Jack Foley came in for a winning spare ride on board Daicheadacuig in division two of the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle in Kilbeggan.

The 7/1 chance swept to the front before swinging in to face the final flight. Once he negotiated the last of the nine obstacles, he powered away on the run-in to win by a healthy six lengths. Cottie the 6/4 favourite, was outgunned in second but finished four and three quarter lengths clear of third-placed Double Jubilee (25/1).

Assistant trainer Robbie McNamara said: “He deserved it. He’d a couple of good runs under his belt. He’s consistent and honest and probably has a high enough rating to win a summer maiden hurdle.

“He’s a straightforward horse and Jack gave him a lovely ride.

“Brian (Mortell, owner) had him for point-to-pointing and does a lot of the work with him.”

Conor McNamara had been due to partner Daicheadacuig but was stood down after being unseated and concussed in the first race.
