Foildearg digs deep in opener
Foildearg stayed on stoutly down the straight to run out a game winner of the opening 1m6f handicap at Ballinrobe.
Mark Enright kicked for home three furlongs out on the daughter of Mull Of Kintyre after tracking the leaders in the early stages.
John Ryan 's charge had attracted some money this morning, 25/1 into 14/1, and always looked in command down the straight as she held the challenge of Kristal Komet by a length-and-a-quarter.
The winner had been a decent fourth in maiden company on her last visit to the course but had finished well beaten on her handicap debut at Galway last time when making the running.
"That's me first winner on the Flat. Her future is over hurdles and that's a bonus," said Templemore handler Ryan.
"She might go for another one of these before going hurdling."
It was also a first winner for owners the Earls Racing Syndicate, who are based in Donegal.
19-year-old Enright, who is connected to Tommy Stack's yard, was partnering his fifth winner.
7/2 favourite Khayar who finished fourth, was reported to have lost his hind legs coming out of the stalls.
