Flutter upsets the odds
Another Flutter opened his account when recording a shock 16/1 success in the Ballycahill Beginners Chase for Patrickswell trainer Maureen Danagher and 3lb claimer Lenny Flynn.
The seven-year-old gelding, who paid 23.10 on the Tote, led two out in this stamina-sapping three miler and stayed on dourly to beat long-time leader West Ship Master by four lengths. Whitty's Choice kept on late under pressure to finish another eight lengths adrift in third, while eventual fourth Mountain Lough appeared a big threat until fading after a mistake two out.
Only half of the 14 runners completed the course, with 3/1 favourite Stay being brought down before halfway.
Winning trainer Maureen Danagher said: “I'm delighted to get a win with him as he was second four times in point-to-points. I didn't think he'd handle the ground but he's a natural chaser.”
The successful Thomond Racing Syndicate comprises twelve members across the country from Limerick, Dublin, Athlone and Kilkenny.
