Flat Jockeys Championship Race Hots Up
Johnny Murtagh holds a narrow lead, just two ahead of Fran Berry and four up on Pat Smullen, as the race to become Irish Champion Flat Jockey enters the final ten weeks of the season. As of Tuesday morning and before racing at the Curragh today, Johnny Murtagh has recorded 73 wins, Fran Berry 71 wins, while Pat Smullen is just two further back on the 69 winner mark.
Last year's Champion Flat Jockey Pat Smullen will no doubt be going all out to defend his title as he bids to become Champion for the fifth occasion in his career, while Murtagh is trying to claim it for the fourth time and record his first win since 1998. Fran Berry would be lifting the crown for the first time if successful.
