Cat Fire showed admirable battling qualities to make a winning debut in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden at Fairyhouse.

Declan McDonogh produced the filly to challenge at the furlong pole but she was soon headed by Joe Eile

Kevin Prendergast 's charge knew her job however and knuckled down well to get up in the closing stages for a head success.

"It's the first foal out of the mare and I bred her myself. We'll see what Kevin says about plans for her," said owner Norman Ormiston.
