Fearnwood scores at Sligo again
On her seventh career visit to Sligo, Fearnwood Girl under Andrew McNamara returned to the winners enclosure at her favourite racecourse, taking the Guinness Handicap Hurdle.
Trained by Tom McCourt the 5yo daughter of Dilshaan has won twice around the course before both of which have come over two miles.
In fact, she won on this card last year, claiming the second race on the card the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Hurdle.
Never too far off the pace the 14/1 winner took up the lead after the second last and fended off all challengers from there to win by a half a length. Bachelor Affair ran a nice race to take second at 7/1, while the 11/4fav Par Five was a further length and a half back in third.
Winning trainer Tom McCourt was not present for the win, as he is in Fairyhouse.
Winning owner Paul Jordan, from Dungannon, Co Tyrone was available for comment however and he said: "Tom (McCourt) went to the wrong course! That's her third win around here, she loves it at Sligo.
"She hadn't been running to form recently. She will probably go to Galway now, she was third there last year."
