Well backed Spruce Meadows landed the featured E50,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Red God' Handicap at Dundalk today, scoring for trainer Johnny Feane and jockey Gary Halpin.
Backed from 10/1 this morning, the son of Intikhab was returned a 4/1 shot and in the end edged ahead close home to claim a short-head win over Le Vagabond
Today’s E29,500 first prize moved Spruce Meadows’ career earnings to E93,000 and afterwards a delighted Feane stated “it's good to get there with him as he was a bit unlucky in Cork.
“I got a bit confused after Cork (over 1m4f) as we ran in couple of races that sort of suited but I don't think he stays the extended mile-and-a-half up the Curragh. He doesn't have the stamina for it.
“They went a little bit slow today and quickened and fortunately he got his head down at the right time.
“The owners are delighted and that's the main thing and it's a nice prize to get. We've been beaten in three or four of these this season so it's nice to get one.”
