Eleven year old Notification ran out the easy winner of the Harvest Festival 13th-19th September Handicap Hurdle at Listowel today, scoring a win for father and son combination and namesakes Willie (father, trainer) and William (jockey) Cronin.
The winner raced prominently throughout, improved to lead four out and by the next flight was clear and in effect, had the race in safe keeping. Cronin, 26 and who works for trainer John Joe Walsh, kept the son of Dushyantor going for a seven lengths win.
Cronin senior was on lead up duties but his son and jockey later stated "I had a look around after the third last and couldn't believe how far clear I was.
"We were a bit worried about the ground coming here as you wouldn't expect it to be soft to heavy on June 1 but it actually rode alright.
"He schooled over fences last week and could go for a beginners chase next."
