Bill Farrell's horses are always worth a second look and when Stronger Than Me attracted a bit of support at around 6/1 this morning, interest in him for the www.arklememorial.com Apprentice Handicap heightened.
The confidence for him in the ring at Dundalk wasn't sustained, though he did go off a steady 7/1 chance. Anyway the horse was unaware of all this and he proved up to the task under Mark Monaghan.
The four-year-old only began racing back in May and his form has taken a definite upward trajectory since he began competing on the polytrack.
Third here four weeks back over the course and distance, the Marju gelding, also owned by Bill Farrell, was stronger inside the last than Whitethorne Scent prevailing by three parts of a length.
The race title makes reference to the fact that a display of Arkle memorabilia, belonging to Nick O'Toole, is on display at the track to mark the 50th anniversary of Arkle winning at Dundalk.
'Himself' won at the old venue on October 17th 1962.
The racecard tonight also commemorates the great horse. (AM & EM)
