Liz Doyle appears to have a nice young prospect on her hands in the shape of Farmix who made a winning start over fences in the McGann Energy Consultants Rated Novice Chase at Fairyhouse.
The French-bred five-year-old won a maiden hurdle on her previous outing just before the lockdown at Clonmel in March.
The 7/2 favourite was prominent throughout in this two miles event but was strongly pressed in the straight by Dis Donc
The pair fought out a protracted battle with Donagh Meyler’s mount getting on top in the closing stages to prevail by a length. Ujumpthelastuwin kept on well under pressure to finish just a neck further back in third.
Doyle said, “He’s a lovely big baby and it was only his fourth run over obstacles so I was a bit nervous as to whether he’d be street wise enough to go on and make it.
“He jumped into the air a bit early on but got the hang of it as he went along. An extra half-mile might suit.
“He has such a big stride and kind of has to make the running. That’s his way of being competitive is to go out and gallop. He’ll improve mentally as much as anything.”
