The Peter Fahey trained The Big Dog produced a fine staying performance to win the concluding Naas Rebrand (Pro-Am) Bumper at Naas today, under jockey Katie Walsh.
The son of Mahler was hard at work from early in the straight as eventual third-placed Voix Des Tiep travelled much stronger. However, The Big Dog maintained his strong gallop throughout, edged past Voix Des Tiep inside the final furlong and then scored a length and three parts win over running-on Mount Pelier
Afterwards Fahey later stated "he's a cracking horse and came highly regarded and Aidan Fitzgerald had him for his point-to-points.
“He's probably finished now and he'll have the whole spring and summer off and come back hurdling in the autumn.
"I'm delighted for the Kellys, from near Banagher in Co. Offaly, as the whole family are a big racing clan. They have had horses since 1982 and this is their first winner but their dad John isn't that well at the moment.”
