Eziyra an appropriate winner of Weld Park
Eziyra and Pat Smullen have their Curragh Group 3 rivals beaten off

In the words of commentator Des Scahill "Dermot Weld wins the race called after his parents" as Eziyra took the honours under Pat Smullen in race two at the Curragh, the C.L. Weld & M.F. Weld Park Stakes - a Group 3 for fillies and mares.
Weld hadn't taken the race he sponsors for quite some time, despite numerous placings. However the win of the first-time hooded Eziyra was certainly expected as the Teofilo chestnut went off the 5/4 favourite.
A tendency to swish her tail isn't an impediment to the Aga Khan's juvenile, and she stayed on well in the final furlong for a two length win over Charlie Appleby's Godolphin contender, Grecian Light
"She's been very consistent and that was an excellent performance. That's it for this year," commented Weld.
"I hope she will develop into an Irish 1,000 Guineas filly next year. We put the hood on to help her to settle as she was a bit keen the last day. I see her as a miler next year.
"Pat (Smullen) maintains she wants good ground as she is not the strongest of fillies physically, and she has a beautiful action."
