Express brings back memories of Galevilla
The Galevilla Express colours of Mrs Sadie Doyle got a successful airing in the opening L.M. Carey & Company Handicap courtesy of the Paul Deegan trained Beauty Express This one, part of three strong raid on the race by Deegan, was ridden by Gary Carroll.
She kept on well in the straight to see off the favourite, well-backed Dundrum Dancer appearing for the second time this week.
Deegan explained afterwards: "See You Smile (beat only one home) would prefer quicker ground and Dart Queen (6th) we thought was the best of the three. She wants further on that kind of ground.
"Beauty Express did it well, Gary gave her a very good ride. With that wide draw we thought she might struggle. The cheek-pieces certainly helped. Kevin (Manning) said when the gap opened for her in Dundalk she looked around a bit so she's still learning her trade."
Gamble of the contest Pacey Outswinger (33s into 9/2) was slowly away and always behind. John McConnell's filly finished tailed off in last.
