Trainer David Marnane, fresh from Royal Ascot glory with Dandy Boy in the Wokingham Stakes, landed the Boodles Diamond Handicap at The Curragh today with Empirico under Fergal Lynch.
After Empirico's (recording a third career win and a first in soft ground) win, Marnane stated “the handicapper has been fair to Empirico and he was also a bit unlucky on his last two runs.
“I didn't quite think he'd handle that ground although he was fourth in the Rockingham here last year with a bit of cut in the ground.
“We'll see what the handicapper does with him – hopefully he won't be too harsh and he may come back here again for another try at the Rockingham on Oaks Day.”
