Ultimately easy-to-back at 10/1 Big Gossey took his polytrack score to two wins in the Join Us On Instagram @dundalk_stadium Handicap.
The grey, trained by Charles O’Brien for the Allegro Syndicate, won over five furlongs here in December 2019. He also has a Curragh June 2020 win under his belt.
On this occasion over six furlongs the Gutaifan gelding with Danny Sheehy up, raced prominently early.
Soon chasing the leaders, Big Gossey was third at the halfway stage, and was ridden to challenge a furlong and a half out.
Edging left and leading narrowly a furlong out, the four-year-old kept on well under pressure in the final furlong to defeat dead-heaters Wonder Elzaam and Fastman by a length and a quarter.
“He came on from the last run. They went a good strong gallop which suited him and he settled lovely,” said Sheehy.
“When I gave him a squeeze he picked up really well. He toughed it out to the line so I’m very happy with him.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Woodrow trained by C.W.J. Farrell, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
C.J. MacRedmond, rider of War Hero trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was outpaced during this race.
