Mullinavat County Kilkenny native Daniel Holden received an early 21st birthday present with a third career success, that coming on John ‘Shark’ Hanlon’s Redwood Boy in the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.

Holden was thankful to his agent Garry Cribbin in the aftermath, for getting him the spin on the John Sherlock-owned 25/1 shot.

The Definite Article nine-year-old got the better of Crack On Corrie and She’s Made It by half a length and the same ahead of Sunday’s ‘key to the door’ celebrations for Holden.

"We ran him over fences a week ago and Rachael Blackmore, who rode him, came in and said he was a coward and to go back over hurdles. We had him entered here at the time and that's why we ran him," said Hanlon.

"He is a little bit of a rogue and I don't think chasing is going to be a part of his life!

"He is one of those horses who things have to fall for him but he likes it around here. He wants a bit of nice ground and we'll probably put him away until next year now.

"I said to the young lad to 'stay wide, on the bends and all, and if you're out any further you'll be in the trees'. They were the only instructions I gave him."
