Four year old Real Appeal is with his third trainer and today bridged a near two-year gap between wins, as Zhang Yuesheng's gelding completed doubles for his trainer Jessica Harrington and jockey Shane Foley in the Leopardstown Members Handicap, at that racecourse.
The German-bred son of Sidestep won twice in France for trainer Matthieu Palussiere and having raced for Jim Bolger later in 2019, today registered a first win since a Listed success at Maisons-Laffitte in May 2019.
Real Appeal justified strong support (13/2 — 4/1f) in beating Dream today by a length and a half and afterwards Harrington's daughter Kate Harrington said “he did really well over the winter. We threw him out in the field with a few jumpers after Irish Champions Weekend; they showed him the ropes and helped him man up a bit!
“He’s come back in a different horse this year. His work has been very good and I think there could be a bit more improvement in him as well.
“There is an 80,000 Premier Handicap in Cork (on May 7) and that’s where he’ll probably go next.”
Harrington and Foley had earlier won the opening maiden with O'Reilly.
