- Drop Anchor sinks punters
Drop Anchor sinks punters
Drop Anchor caused a 25/1 shock in the first division of the three mile maiden hurdle at Bellewstown.
The King’s Theatre gelding took up the running two hurdles out under Phillip Enright and outstayed 7/2 shot Serious Bay after the last for a length and three quarter victory. Garamor Boy was a further seven lengths back in third after attempting to take the race by the scruff of the neck four flights out. Georgelle finished fourth.
Cruise on Bach the well-backed 11/8 favourite proved disappointing after finding nothing when asked for his effort three out. He finished fifth.
There was a stewards enquiry after the winner swerved across the runner-up but the placings were unchanged. Winning jockey Enright received a two day ban for careless riding.
Successful trainer Edward Cawley commented: "He runs a bit green for a horse that has run so often. He ran in snatches today but is a good jumper. I might go to England with him. He needs good ground. Perth in September could be an option."
