Off a 14Ib higher mark for a course and distance success over three weeks back, Drakensberg (2/1 into 7/4 favourite) was similarly striking in victory in the concluding Over 1000 Games At BetVictor Casino Handicap at Dundalk.
Drakensberg was settled in mid-division by Robbie Colgan, and Tony Martin's charge travelled well to challenge between horses two furlongs out.
He eased into the lead under a furlong out, shaken up briefly to assert in the final hundred yards, easily beating Tooreen Legend and Alcander (6s into 4s) by a length and a quarter and two and three parts of a length.
“A fair few things went wrong for this horse and I probably ran him too quick coming from Germany and he didn’t get a chance to acclimatise. We’ve given him a long break now and it’s after working out," said Martin.
“We’ll see how he is in a few weeks and try and find something similar. The boys (Mulvany’s Bar Syndicate, from Dunboyne) are thrilled and they get a great kick out of it.”
