Wayne Lordan secured a double at Dundalk when conjuring up a final furlong flourish from 7/1 shot Gordon Lord Byron to win the six furlong handicap for trainer Tom Hogan.

The duo hit the front a furlong out from Duff (9-2 to 7/2 favourite) and long-time leader Queenie Keen and duly fended off fast-finishing Tell The Wind (33/1) and Solent Ridge (12/1) to land the spoils by two necks. Duff finished a further head back in fourth.

Gordon Lord Byron was having his eighth ever race. He following up from winning a course and distance maiden three weeks ago under the same pilot and is now two from two at Dundalk. He drifted left when mounting his challenge here a furlong out, but stayed on well.

“He did it nicely. We’ll see what happens, but it’s possible we may give him another run before we shut down for the year,” winning trainer Tom Hogan said.

“The horse is owned by Morgan Cahalan. His land in Ballingarry, Co Tipperary, is used to run point-to-points on. He was bought as a foal for a couple of grand with a view to selling him on but between one thing and another Morgan was left with the horse.”
