- Double for Murphy as Gold takes gold
Double for Murphy as Gold takes gold
Goldplated showed that her good run at Tramore, where she finished just three parts of a length second to Kildare Kitten, was no flash in the pan as she routed the field in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap to give trainer John Murphy a double on the card.
The 3yo daughter of Selkirk was having just her sixth career start this evening and on her last run alone she looked way overprice here at 14/1. Hangar Five for Pat Flynn and jockey Danny Benson went off the strongly supported 6/4 favourite having being backed from his morning price of 5/2.
The favourite took up the running just before the furlong pole, but that lead was short lived as Samantha Bell produced the winner, who soon went clear, recording a three and a half length success at the finish. Countess Salome ran on to take third a further three and a half lengths back at 20/1.
Winning trainer John Murphy said afterwards: "Samantha give her a great ride. We will see what the handicapper does now before deciding where to go next.”
Winning rider Samantha Bell who is based with Kevin Prendergast, was recording just her second win, her first winner coming at Leopardstown in March where she scored aboard Celtic Dane.
