Newcomers finished first and second in the John Lane & Son’s Ltd. INH Flat Race at Killarney as Double Talkin Jive (12/1) prevailed for Pat Martin and Declan Lavery.
A half-brother to an Australian Group Three winner and to useful Ado McGuinness-trained premier handicap winner Aussie Valentine, Double Talkin Jive just done enough to get home over this two mile one furlong trip.
Gambled-on Slige Dala (9/2 into 7/4 favourite) was switched by jockey Tom Hamilton to come with a final flourish on the outer inside the last.
Bred for stamina this fellow stayed on well, but not well enough to catch half length scorer Double Talkin Jive.
In third place was Hollow Sound three lengths back.
"The owner (Nigel Carolan) has done most of the work with him and he came to us five or six weeks ago. He is a lovely horse, has more speed than a two-mile horse but we thought this time of year the bumpers are not over-strong and the test of stamina is not over-severe," said Martin.
"We're not surprised he won but he still had to do it and I've not won a bumper for a long time.
"I'm thrilled for the owners and I'd say there is a for-sale sign up now and we don't have a definite plan. He has ran the way he trains which is encouraging, he has plenty size about him and just needed time to come to hand and is getting there now."
