With second season chasers Any Second Now (5/4 favourite, 5th) and Bacardys (5/2, 7th) it was left to fencing first-timer Discorama to steal the show in the Mongey Communications Beginners Chase at Naas.
Supported into 8/1 from 10/1, Discorama delivered under a confident Bryan Cooper, by a length and a quarter and a short head from the Gigginstown pair, Burgas and Burren Life
Paul Nolan trains Discorama for Andrew Gemmell and Thomas Friel and the Wexford handler said: "I was hoping to get a horse that could compete at level weights again, and hopefully he’ll come on from it. He’ll handle softer ground and can go further. He’s a nice horse.
“It’s amazing that we had only won one race with him but in fairness to Kevin Sexton he said this will be some horse to jump a fence, and he proved it there today.
“He’s furnished a bit more this year and is carrying a bit more behind the saddle. He loves galloping and hopefully he’ll stay sound.
“We put him in the Drinmore the other day and we don’t think he’ll be out of place in it.”
P. Townend, rider of Bacardys (FR) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made mistakes and got tired.
