Whilst the runner-up, Sylvan Mist didn't enjoy much luck in running, Luke Dempsey and Toberton kept things simple up front in the opening Dundalk Stadium – Light Up Your Night Claiming Maiden.
The action on the betting front for this seven furlong event, centred principally around 4/6 shot Eusepio but he proved a bitter disappointment to his backers, eventually only managing sixth after having every chance.
Helen and Ted Walsh's Toberton meanwhile, made the best of his way home from the two furlong pole (having missed the break before grabbing the lead after a furlong).
Wayne Lordan managed to get Sylvan Mist into the clear to launch her challenge from under a furlong out but the line came in time for the victorious Chevalier gelding, who emerged on top by half a length.
Ted Walsh said: "He had a fair run in Gowran when he was fifth and Declan (McDonogh) rode him that day.
"He then ran here twice and was too free. Today he got to the front."
There were no claims after this race. (MG & EM)
