Deegan/Supple on the mark with another Abdullah filly
Paul Deegan, fresh from his success with Lady Fashion at Dundalk last night, was on the mark again in the opener today at the County Louth venue as Naseem Sea also with Willie Supple up in the Jaber Abdullah silks, got the better of a good scrap with Danziger for the five furlong juvenile auction maiden.
Deegan was quite sweet about Naseem Sea in a stable tour that appeared in the Irish Field at the start of the month, saying: "She has a nice page and is by an unfashionable stallion, but she goes well and I like her. Her work has been good. She is going to be out fairly early. She had a little problem with her eye, but that has cleared up and she hasn't disappointed. She is great mentally and is a nice strong filly."
Here course and distance third from 15 days ago, Naseem Sea, as a 7/1 chance (9s earlier in the day) improved to challenge a quarter of a mile from home where she was slightly hampered and with a very strong wind blowing down the track, she just edged ahead close home from Danziger. Kevin Ryan's favourite Pea Shooter could manage only third.
Paul Coyle, travelling head lad to Deegan's Clifton Lodge yard, said: "She learned a lot from her first run and she is tough and keeps improving.
"It's nice to get the bonus with her (£10K Racing Post Yearling Bonus) and there are no real immediate plans for her. All Paul's horses are in good form."
Naseem Sea was well-bought, costing 2,200 as a yearling.
The result stood after a steward's enquiry.
