Brog Deas landed a nice touch on his handicap debut when running out a game winner at Gowran Park.
The Pat Flynn-trained gelding was backed from 25/1 into 7/1 this morning and was eventually sent off an 8/1 shot on course.
Danny Grant produced his mount to challenge two furlongs from home and he edged ahead before the furlong marker.
Well-backed favourite Queenscliff (10/3 into 2/1) threw down a strong challenge in the closing stages but failed by half a length to peg back her rival.
It was a first winner of the season for Grant and a first on the Flat this year for Flynn.
"He'll stay handicapping and will hopefully improve," said the winning trainer.
"I was a bit worried about the ground as he wouldn't want too much of a cut."
