De Bromhead and Lynch double up with Bene
Jack Bene pulled out all the stops in front as he gained a deserved first success in the 2m6f maiden hurdle at Thurles.
Andrew Lynch and Henry de Bromhead, who had teamed up earlier with Berties Dream completed a double when the grey made all for a gutsy success.
The 5/4 favourite looked a sitting duck as Quaquo De Flotte travelled well on his tail turning for home.
Lynch found a willing partner, however, and he edged ahead going to the last.
The runner-up came with a renewed challenge on the run-in and pushed his rival to a half-length at the line.
The winner was not scoring out of turn having had seven career placed efforts, including a couple of runner-up spots in point-to-points.
"That was brilliant. He deserved it so much," said de Bromhead.
"He's rated 115 so the bumper winners would have to had run to 123 to beat him.
"He was unlucky to meet Archie Meade last time and the pair pulled 31 lengths clear of the third.
"We can't wait to go chasing with him. He may be better on better ground and is a real dour stayer.
"We'll probably take it easy with him now and look to the spring."
