Maighnealta battled gamely to grab the spoils for Des McDonogh in the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
The 14/1 shot was produced to challenge turning for home, by Ben Dalton, and got to the front going to the final flight.
He kept on stoutly on the run-in to maintain his advantage as Charlie Stout just edged the battle for the runner-up spot from Veinard two-and-a-half lengths behind him.
The winner had run well on his last visit to the course when third to Theo last month.
"Ben gave him a great ride and he's ridden out his claim now,” revealed McDonogh
"He's a home-bred and is called after our local village. We'll find another handicap for him somewhere over Christmas.
"He a horse that can jump a fence and could go to Downpatrick in the spring. He's a fine big horse."
