There was an exciting conclusion to the www.thurlesraces.ie Novice Handicap Chase and Cusp Of Carabelli had to survive a steward’s enquiry before being confirmed the winner.
Front-runner Western Sea was still there on terms with his chance when falling at the last.
Under Sean Flanagan then Cusp Of Carabelli edged left on the run-in.
In truth Stylish Moment had his chance to go by from the back of the final obstacle and it was no surprise when the David O’Brien-trained Cusp Of Carabelli was confirmed the half length victor.
"That was great for him and he has been consistent all year. I thought the ground might have been gone a bit for him but he grinded it out well," said O'Brien.
"He is unbelievable for a E900 horse; that's his first win away from Tramore and it is nice to get another one.
"It's hard to believe that he is over-rated for Tramore now and he'll get a break now."
R.M. Power, rider of Great Khan trained by E. J. O'Grady, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount made numerous mistakes and pulled up.
The Stewards enquired into possible interference after the last fence involving Stylish Moment, ridden by P.T. Enright, placed second and Cusp Of Carabelli, ridden by S.W. Flanagan, placed first, where it appeared both horses edged towards the stand side.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge's placings and took no further action.
