Fivecromwellplace sprang a 40/1 shock in the three-year-old handicap at Dundalk for Kilkenny trainer Paul McEnery.
The Galileo Gold gelding was well beaten in three maiden runs last year but was a different proposition on his return to action, on his handicap debut.
Nathan Crosse produced his mount to lead passing the furlong pole and he galloped on strongly to record a two-length win over 33/1 shot Velvet Skis.
The winning rider said:- "He's a lovely big horse with a big stride on him. We didn't want to take that away from him.
"We thought we would jump and go forward. I was happy that Dylan (Browne McMonagle on The Poacher Daly came across and made the running. We stacked up once Dylan did that and I got first run on the rest.
"He saw it out very well and he will probably get a mile.
"He was just so big and raw, I was very happy with that.
"They love running their horses and improving them, and he has improved from his three runs. I rode him work last week and he has improved again."
