Champion Hurdle winning trainer Gavin Cromwell and stable jockey Jonathan Moore
combined for a second winner in as many days when Bentham justified strong 11/10 favouritism to win the opening Intersure Group (C&G) Maiden Hurdle at Bellewstown today.
Cormwell and Moore were on the mark with Friary Gold at Killarney yesterday and Bentham, backed on the show from 7/4 to 11/10, found more than runner-up Belfast Banter in the closing stages to win by six lengths.
Cromwell later said “I thought he'd win in Limerick the last day and I was a little bit disappointed he got beat so it's nice to get the maiden won.
“I'm not sure where we go next and it's just nice to get that one. There could be something in Galway but I haven't thought about where we go from here.
“He loves that summer ground. I know he's by Jeremy and they tend to like soft ground but he certainly enjoys a bit of nice ground.”
