Costello Gets a Deserved Winner
Limerick trainer Flan Costello thought he had ended a barren run of over seven years when Fastnowfast passed the post first in www.tipperaryraces.ie Handicap under Wayne Lordan on August 28th last year. However to the surprise of many in attendance the neck verdict was reversed at a Steward's Enquiry, with Lime Tree Valley promoted to first place.
However good things come to those who wait and teaming up with fellow Shannon-sider, Chris Hayes (completing a double after an earlier success on Wrong Answer , Costello's Refuse To Sell got on top inside the final furlong to beat outsider, Rio Grando by a length in the Kriterion Conservation Architects Handicap.
Costello said of his 10/1 winner: "We've got a winner finally, there is great difficulty coming by them. This fellow has been knocking on the door there for a while."
Drunken Wisdom was Costello's previous winner, under Wayne Smith, at the Galway Festival in 2001. (EM)
