The big-priced winners continue to roll in for the Jim Bolger yard and following on from Mac Swiney (28/1) and New Treasure (66/1) lately, Paso Doble (40/1) struck at a much more modest level in the Roscommon Racecourse Handicap.
Stable jockey Kevin Manning was on Paso Doble and the other pair at Group level, and the veteran rider also weighed in with a 20/1 success on August 23rd, aboard Bounce The Blues for John Feane.
Off a good gallop Paso Doble (coming back from a 326 absence) found plenty for pressure to beat Inside Intel by four and a half lengths.
“He was working well as a two-year-old but was very weak and raw. He’s developed and done well since. He’s a big horse and is going to keep improving,” said Manning on the Godolphin runner.
“We went a good gallop which sorted them out and he kept going best.”
D. McMonagle, rider of Firstman (FR) trained by A.J.Martin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount found nothing in the straight.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Canford Light trained by Thomas Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Custers Mistake trained by Kevin Prendergast, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was tight for room in the straight.
J.A. Powell, rider of Isaiah trained by John M. Oxx, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount missed the break from the starting stalls.
C.T. Keane, rider of Canford Light, trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung throughout this race.
The Stewards enquired into two incidents in the closing stages, the first involving Custers Mistake, ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced and Canford Light, ridden by CF.T. Keane, unplaced, where it appeared both animals collided and the second incident involving Grey Serge (GB), ridden by R. Coakley, placed sixth, Dame Rapide ridden by Siobhan Rutledge, placed fifth and Custers Mistake, ridden by C.D. Hayes, unplaced, where it appeared interference had occurred.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that any interference caused was accidental in nature and therefore took no further action.
G.M. Ryan, rider of Pure Nature (GB) trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran short of room when turning down into the back straight.
