Confidence high as Beggy lands a brace
Confidence (16s this morning into 10s) certainly wasn't lacking the quality from which his name derives as he cruised through the iGoRacing Race Night Maiden to bring up a double for his rider Padraig Beggy at Dundalk. Half-an-hour earlier Beggy had got Appletreemagic home to land a gamble.
Confidence, an American-bred blinkered son of More Than Ready, had plenty to find on official ratings but the nine-times previously raced maiden was obviously in the form of his life tonight as he cruised to the front at the furlong pole and went on to see off Gold Mirage Hired Hand (9/4 this morning into 11/8) had a terrible run through the race and ultimately couldn't do any better than third.
Luke Comer trains Confidence, an 8,000 guineas buy out of the Dermot Weld stable last October, for his wife Margaret.
Their son Luke junior said: "We were very confident coming here as he was going well at home. He has come to himself and a mile and two is his trip. Though there were plenty of horses fancied here I thought our lad was better than that.
"He'll be a decent horse and we'll see what the handicapper does now."
