Luke Comer's out-of-the-ordinary stallion Bashkirov sired a first winner today with his son Bradesco which landed Dundalk's Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap for the owner/trainer/breeder/builder.
Galileo-sired, ex-Aidan O'Brien trained Bashkirov finished sixth in the 2008 Irish Derby and while successful three times for Comer, his career bottomed out and retired rated 44, in 2013.
Bradesco was Bashkirov's fourth runner and today improved on a recent Galway third-placing when skipping clear of 13 rivals to easily beat runner-up Yamato and win in the manner of a useful prospect.
Winning jockey Chris Hayes, successful on Comer's 300/1 winner He Knows No Fear in 2020, reported “Jim (Gorman, assistant trainer) and Luke have the horses in good form of late.
“When I rode him the last day I thought the track here would suit him and the step up in trip probably helped as well. He just took a while to warm into it.
“We'll see what the handicapper does but you'd like to think he can do another job up here. Jim will know more, and see how he backs up out of it. I was happy with him.”
