Fond Farewell (18s into 14/1 before the off) came from off the pace to win the 24th Of June Ladies Day At Limerick Handicap.
The Vadamos gelding, who made the frame a couple of times last year at his trainer John Murphy's beloved Killarney, was making his first start for six months.
He made good headway on the outer inside the final quarter-mile and got up close home to deny long-time leader Nusra who had filled the same place in this race last year. Half a length was the margin with a further three parts of a length back to the well-supported 1/1 favourite Secret Rock
Rider Robbie Colgan, completing a double after winning on Dunum earlier, said: "I kept him out for the better ground which wasn't too bad and wasn't as poached up. He travelled around really well, is a fine big horse and stayed at it well.
"He has probably strengthened up since last year and had a little blow pulling up so hopefully he can win again."
