Cloud on Fire at Wexford
Cloud Fire on outing number seven, shed her maiden tag in the Belmont Handicap with Declan McDonogh up sporting the Norman Ormiston silks.
The successful daughter of Refuse To Bend knuckled down well to join the well-backed favourite Headford Lady (4/1 into 11/4) under two furlongs out and she got on top inside the last to prevail by a length with Angel Flight a length and a half back in third. By The Sea (post race normal), the second favourite, never threatened to get in a blow and finished tenth.
McDonogh said of the Kevin Prendergast-trained four-year-old: "She always had a bit of ability but she was high enough in the handicap for what she had done. Hopefully the handicapper won't kill her now as she only won a length.
"She is a well-bred filly and it is great to get a bracket for her."
