Cleary gains a welcome winner
Tom Cleary registered a welcome winner, his first since Miranda's Girl at Roscommon in July 2009, when Bendzoldan caused a 20/1 surprise in the Enable Ireland North East Nursery Handicap at Fairyhouse.
Davy Moran 's (got a two day ban for using his whip with excessive frequency) mount led over two furlongs out and was possibly headed over a furlong out by Brookley Lady (her rider Martin Harley got a day ban for excessive frequency). However with that one swishing her tail, Bendzoldan stayed on better to post a neck success with a length and a half back to another outsider, Big Bad Tyson
Cleary said: "A winner at last! We were hoping she'd run well as she has been working very well at home. We knew she'd like the soft ground and she stays at it and is very tough. Davy gave her a great ride and hopefully she'll be able to win another race like that."
The winner is owned by Jarlath Smyth from Tuam and she was bred by none other than Michael Kinane.
