Fully Charged (7/2) capitalised on the fall of the 6/5 favourite Western Run to win the Join Gowran Park Racing Club Beginners’ Chase.
The Fair Mix gelding disputed the lead throughout but was being pushed along by Hugh Morgan when joined by the strong-travelling market leader on the approach to the third-last fence.
Favourite backers would have been on good terms with themselves at that point, but that was to change as Western Run came down at that obstacle leaving Fully Charged to come home eleven lengths clear of Definite Plan
The 7-year-old grey, fitted with blinkers for the first time, was getting off the mark over fences at the seventh attempt.
Winning trainer Henry de Bromhead said: “Hugh was brilliant on him. We were in two minds whether to run or not on the ground but he seemed to really appreciate it.
“I’m delighted for his owners (Three Swallows Partnership) and we’ll probably look for a two and a half mile or three mile handicap chase in the next few weeks.”
