Tropic Thunder gave connections an immediate repayment on their investment when landing division two of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap at Dundalk.
The Rita Shah-owned gelding was having his first run since purchased for just £8,000 at Doncaster two months ago.
The unconsidered 40/1 chance was patiently ridden to challenge between horse over a furlong out, and led in the closing stages for Conor McGovern.
The four-year-old had a neck to spare over Vocal Resurgence with Any Time two lengths away in third.
Winning trainer Anthony McCann said, “I bought him in Doncaster off Tony Martin and he advised me that he’d be a horse that would suit Dundalk. We just freshened him up and he’d been working well at home.
“We were drawn wide and I told Conor not to panic, let him fill himself up and give him one blast. He’ll definitely be coming back here over the winter.”
